With the start of a new year, I thought it was about time I finally share my favorite moment of 2013 – the day my best friend asked me to marry him! You’ve seen little bits such as this from the Yes Girls and Inside Edition, and you may have seen this post by The Yes Girls, but I don’t usually share a ton of my personal life around here. But, one of the reasons my guy proposed the way he did is because this blog has been something we’ve shared, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it without him. He helped me figure out all the tech stuff that I didn’t understand before, he takes all of my photos, and in the beginning, he even edited them for me until I learned how to do it myself. And, though he won’t admit it, he is my sounding board when I can’t decide if an outfit is a little too different for court.

And so, in the months leading up to him popping the question, he enlisted the help of my mom, my best friend, my sister, The Yes Girls Events, and all of our friends and family. My best friend planned a spa day to give her a break from planning her wedding followed by a small fashion show with new and upcoming designers – complete with a photoshopped flyer and all. I had a feeling that they were plotting against me, so I said something to my mom, who, just like everyone else, told some pretty convincing lies. In the days leading up to it, I was feeling pretty under the weather. I warned everyone I didn’t plan to stay long, but I would go, for a bit. Little bits and pieces of the days leading up to it all seemed odd, like my mom bringing me 4 dresses to try on the night before because she was convinced nothing in my closet would be good enough, and my sister avoiding my calls so she didn’t slip and say anything. But, we had our relaxing morning, grabbed a sushi lunch, and headed to the “Fashion Show”. I still had no idea what I was in for!

We were greeted and escorted to our seats. Each step closer made me realize this wasn’t a fashion show…this was all for me! I first saw our initials at the top of the runway, then all of David’s family, then, an open seat next to my mom and grandma. Reality set in and the tears began to run. I don’t have many of the tears-streaming photos in here because I’m a really ugly crier (really, crying and smiling and laughing all at the same time are so not pretty on me). I was so overwhelmed – overwhelmed with joy and excitement, overwhelmed by the fact that David went through so much to make this moment special, the fact that all of our friends and family were there for us, to share this moment with us! Then it began, his best friend announcing, our friends and family walking down the runway, bits and pieces of the blog in their outfits, in what was being said, in their signs.

Then, my love. He pulled me onto the runway. It is all such a blur and yet, I remember every word and how tight he held my hands in his. I saw all these cameras and I knew we were surrounded by everyone, but it felt like just the two of us. Then he got down on one knee, opened that tiny box with the most gorgeous ring in it, and asked me to marry him – “Absolutely!”

We made our rounds saying hi to everyone, thanking them for being there, still feeling like it was all a dream. Then, a man I didn’t know came over, introduced himself and shared that the whole thing was being filmed for Inside Edition! Camera in my face, I look at David, who with a very worried look on his face says “I’m so sorry, I wanted to tell you first”. But, how could I ever be upset with him after he did all of this for me! What was supposed to be a 2 minute segment on Inside Edition turned out to be all of 30 seconds, but that wasn’t what it was about.

We’ve always been pretty private people. But, he wanted to plan the most memorable day he could for me, and having The Yes Girls and Inside Edition involved allowed him to do that. What I am so excited about is that we will have the video footage (when we eventually get it) and the photos forever. We can sit down with our kids and grand kids and share it all with them, and relive those feelings of love and excitement all over again. The only things missing were my dad who was away at work, and my sister and brother-in-law who couldn’t make it in. Other than that, it was more perfect than I could have ever dreamed! THANK YOU so much to everyone that was involved, to everyone that helped David plan, to everyone that lied to me for weeks to keep it a surprise, and to everyone that was there for us, showing us how much you love and support us – truly, thank you! And, most importantly, thank you to my future husband for always surprising me and making me so happy! I can’t wait to marry you!

And so, for 2014, I’m looking forward to the next step, our wedding! Although I expect our wedding to be my favorite moment of 2014, who knows what this new year will hold!
